Female entrepreneur Roisin Purdy is bringing beauty to the gym. After over 15 years experience within the beauty industry Roisin seized the opportunity to set up her own business in Fitness First, Newtownabbey. Halcyon was launched at the start of 2011 offering a wide range of beauty and holistic therapies to gym members and local people in the area. As a keen gym enthusiast Roisin saw a need for her services, giving members the perfect fitness and beauty package under one location.
Halcyon provides the ideal atmosphere to enjoy a massage, nail treatment, waxing or facial. However, it is not just a beauty salon; Roisin offers a wide range of treatments including sports massages which are very popular for gym members. This gives her a unique selling point within the local area.
Roisin has always dreamt about running her own business and all the benefits resulting from self-employment. Her career path is heading in the direction she envisaged years ago. Roisin’s ambition has always been to pass on her skills to trainees, giving young people the chance to succeed in life.
“I was very excited about setting up my own business but had no knowledge of how to do it. The GO for it programme at North City Business Centre was brilliant. I signed up and within a short period of time I was sitting in my first training class. The course was very informative and it was great having like minded people to bounce ideas off as a sounding board, said Roisin”
Roisin benefited from mentoring at North City Business Centre including help with tax and bookkeeping from industry experts. This provided a further channel of support in the initial stages of setting up Halcyon.

A beautiful future lies ahead for Roisin as she expands her business with the opportunity to introduce Halcyon to other gyms in the next few years.
