Colin Morrison has defeated the odds and built a business within the construction industry. Based in Newtownabbey, he is carrying out both private and commercial work. C. M. Developments was established in 2010 and looking back over the past year Colin has created a reputable name within the industry.
C.M. Developments offers private and commercial new builds, shop and office fit-outs, extensions, refurbishments, sunrooms and conservatories. Colin has over 15 years experience within the construction industry and offers full building services from plan through to completion. His business was built on good foundations; with years of experience behind him and good contacts within the industry, this has proved to be a winning strategy.
During the time when the recession hit, Colin was working for a large construction company and was made redundant but he was proactive about the situation; he always wanted to be self-employed and believed it would pay dividends. It wasn’t long before he signed up on the GO for it programme to help him set up his own business. “I found the training on accounts and tax very helpful and got advice on setting up my website. The mentors guided me through all the stages and kept me right along the way,” said Colin.
C.M. Developments differentiates itself from others in the market by using traditional building values, using Morden techniques. Their unique selling point is values as well as their attention to detail. All projects are carried out to a very high level of quality and” finished with finesse” to an excellent standard all within building regulations. Colin has gained a certificate of commendation from the CIOB site management award scheme, where he is an associate member. The company is also members of the NHBC and FMB, This shows his skill set and commitment to this line of work.
Colin really has a passion for his work and admits he is quite a perfectionist. He goes that extra step as his clients are very important to him. “I build property to a standard I would be happy with as if it was my own home I was building.”
Future plans for C.M. Developments are to specialise in shop and office fit-outs. Within 5-10 years, Colin aspires to run a large construction company, paying dividends for all the hard work and time invested. Building a future within the construction industry will be a challenge but Colin has the experience and passion to succeed.
