Business Advisor Job Opportunity

Purpose of Job

To deliver a range of business start up and development services to new and established businesses along with assisting in the delivery of ICT projects.

 Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver business start up and business development support services, to include pre enterprise initiatives, outreach programmes and other initiatives run by North City Business Centre.  These include: Exploring Enterprise, Regional support Initiative, Business Boot camp; Steps to Work and Tradelinks;
  • To ensure that programmes are delivered within agreed budgets and output targets;
  • To provide a professional business advice service to clients interested in starting a business or in developing an existing business;
  • To prepare business plans, including financial projections for new and established businesses;
  • To market and promote the services available at North City Business Centre through the various programmes, services and successes of North City Business Centre  across North Belfast and beyond and to clients and stakeholders;
  • To deliver training on the various programmes from pre-start to start up through to business development;
  • To deliver a range of ICT based programmes covering Microsoft Office product suite and digital marketing topics including social media and email marketing;
  • To assist  in the development of new programmes and initiatives to increase enterprise awareness and business start up levels in North Belfast;
  • To ensure that all programme claims, including evidence required to support claims are maintained to a high standard and in a timely manner;
  • Any other reasonable request by Management.

 Essential Criteria

  • Business, Marketing or ICT related degree
  • Ability to prepare business plans, including financial projections  for new and existing businesses;
  • Highly motivated and able to work on own initiative;
  • Ability to analyse the issues facing a new or developing business and support, mentor and signpost clients accordingly;
  • Ability to deliver business support initiatives to new and developing businesses;
  • Able to work with businesses at start up and early stage development levels;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with clients at all levels;
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to design and deliver training programmes, in particular on business, marketing and ICT topics;
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to understand the financial issues of SME’s;
  • Able to work on own initiative; 
  • Must be available to work outside of normal hours when required

 

 

Desirable Criteria

 

  • 1 - 2 years industry/business experience

 

  • Membership of a professional body

 

  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle

Stepping Stone to Employment

Claire English Claire English has a success story to share that will encourage others who are currently seeking employment. In the midst of the news stories about uncertainty in the job market, Claire has beaten the odds and secured a full time position as a waitress. 

Claire recently took a step that would change her career at a time of unemployment. She contacted North Belfast Employment Centre for help and after working in coffee shops for many years, she had numerous skills to offer an employer. North Belfast Employment Centre provided her with an amazing opportunity; a paid placement in a local cafe in North Belfast. Claire was delighted that she could use her skills and earn money. Given the opportunity Claire excelled in her job role and has now secured a full time job at Jimmy Webster’s cafe.

We were delighted to inform women about the programmes offered at North City Business Centre and the opportunities available to change their future prospects.

Aaron Burns and Fiona Morrison are making their dream a reality. Their vision to set up a business offering drama workshops to schools, youth and community groups developed at a young age and their ideas are now coming to life. They look forward to helping individuals in Belfast to develop life skills, build confidence or just have fun and meet new people through drama facilitation.  They have the passion, commitment and determination to run their own business successfully and make a positive impact in the local community.

Old Park’s George is Celebrating Achievement Award

George Phillips North Belfast man, George Phillips is celebrating this month, as he was presented with a CCEA Celebrating Achievement Award at a high profile ceremony in Lisburn Island Civic Centre. This is one of the highest prizes awarded by the CCEA and recognises the outstanding progress and achievements learners have made in vocational subjects.  George was selected as a shining example in the Business Enterprise section. 

George’s award was for the success he has reached following completion of the Exploring Enterprise 2 Programme (EE2P) through North City Business Centre.  23 year old George, from the Old Park area of North Belfast, had to overcome many personal challenges to join the programme, which helps long-term unemployed people to get back into work and get a feel for business.
